32 KILLED, 700 INJURED AS TWIN POWERFUL EARTHQUAKES DEVASTATE VENEZUELA

At least 32 people were killed and more than 700 others were injured after two powerful earthquakes measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela less than a minute apart on Wednesday evening, triggering widespread destruction across the country.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez declared a state of emergency, saying La Guaira state, north of Caracas, suffered the worst damage as dozens of buildings collapsed. Rescue teams continued searching through the rubble in Caracas and nearby areas, where trapped survivors were heard calling for help. Authorities also reported damage to the country’s main international airport, while power and communication outages complicated rescue operations.

The twin earthquakes struck at around 6:04 p.m. local time during a national holiday, when many families were inside their homes. The 7.5-magnitude quake is considered the strongest to hit Venezuela since 1900. The U.S. Geological Survey warned that the final death toll could rise significantly as rescuers continue to reach heavily affected areas and assess the full extent of the devastation.
