CARLOS YULO, CHLOE SAN JOSE REVEAL NINE-MONTH ENGAGEMENT

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo and longtime girlfriend Chloe San Jose are officially engaged, revealing that they have quietly been engaged for nine months before sharing the milestone with the public on Monday, September 28.

San Jose announced the engagement through social media, sharing photos and videos from the proposal and revealing that Yulo popped the question on December 18, 2025.

The couple had kept the engagement private, saying they wanted to treasure the moment before eventually sharing it with their supporters. San Jose described the past nine months as a “beautiful secret” that they quietly celebrated together.

The proposal featured not one, but two engagement rings. According to GMA News, Yulo first proposed with a white-gold ring featuring an aquamarine-colored center stone surrounded by diamonds. After San Jose said yes, he went down on one knee again with a second ring featuring a heart-shaped yellow center stone.

Yulo explained that the two rings were meant to symbolize his two Olympic gold medals and credited San Jose for supporting him throughout his journey.

“For me, she’s the gold medal of my heart,” Yulo said, according to GMA News.

A RELATIONSHIP THAT WEATHERED PUBLIC FAMILY ISSUES

The engagement also comes after years of public attention surrounding the couple’s relationship, particularly Yulo’s strained relationship with his parents, Mark and Angelica Yulo.

San Jose referenced those difficult chapters in her engagement announcement, saying the couple had “weathered storms together” and learned, fought, protected and supported each other throughout their relationship. She also said she was grateful even for the difficult chapters that eventually brought them to where they are now.

Yulo and San Jose have been together since 2020. Their relationship became the subject of public discussion after Yulo’s mother, Angelica, publicly expressed her concerns about their relationship following his success at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The family dispute later became more public, with Yulo and his mother making separate statements regarding financial and personal issues. Yulo previously said his mother had withdrawn money from his account without his consent, while Angelica said she was safeguarding his future.

The issue has continued to surface in discussions about the couple. Earlier this month, Yulo said he preferred that his wedding be an intimate celebration focused on him and San Jose and acknowledged that there had been family issues he had already chosen to forgive. He said he did not want anything to affect what should be a happy moment for the couple.

San Jose likewise said she would support whatever Yulo was comfortable with regarding the presence of his parents at their wedding.

FROM PUBLIC SCRUTINY TO A NEW CHAPTER

Despite the controversies surrounding their relationship, Yulo and San Jose have continued to publicly support each other.

Their engagement announcement came shortly after Yulo’s successful campaign at the 2026 Asian Games, where he won two gold medals, while his younger brother Eldrew also secured a bronze medal.

For the couple, the engagement marks another chapter in a relationship that has developed under intense public scrutiny.

San Jose ended her announcement by expressing her commitment to Yulo, saying she would choose him “in every lifetime.”

The couple has yet to announce a wedding date.
