CHARGES FILED VS. TELEGRAM FOUNDER PAVEL DUROV OVER ALLEGED FACILITATION OF TERRORIST ACTIVITIES

MOSCOW, Russia — Russian authorities have filed criminal charges against Telegram founder Pavel Durov, accusing him of allegedly facilitating terrorist activities through the messaging platform.

According to Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), the case stems from Telegram's alleged failure to remove content that authorities claim was used by Ukrainian special services, as well as organizations designated by Russia as terrorist and extremist groups.

The FSB alleged that the materials circulating on the platform were intended to support acts of sabotage, terrorism, mass killings, and cyber fraud operations targeting the Russian Federation.

Russian authorities contend that despite repeated concerns, the messaging platform failed to take down the disputed content, prompting the filing of criminal charges against Durov.

The FSB also announced that it has issued an international warrant seeking Durov's arrest in connection with the case.

As of this writing, neither Pavel Durov nor Telegram has publicly responded to the latest accusations. Independent verification of the allegations remains limited, and the claims have not been established in court.

The development adds to the ongoing tensions between Russian authorities and Telegram, which has repeatedly faced pressure from governments over issues involving content moderation, user privacy, and national security.
