The Southern Police District (SPD) has identified the suspect arrested in connection with the shooting incident near the Senate complex on Wednesday night as 44-year-old Mel Oragon, reportedly employed as a driver at the National Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities said Oragon is now under police custody as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident that triggered panic and heightened security in the area. Law enforcement officials have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting, with the probe still ongoing.
The incident sparked confusion and intense public attention after gunshots were reported within the vicinity of the Senate complex, prompting security forces to respond immediately. The National Bureau of Investigation earlier denied reports that its agents were involved in the exchange of gunfire or any operation to arrest a senator inside the Senate premises.
Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage, ballistic evidence, and witness statements as part of the continuing investigation into one of the most talked-about security incidents involving the Senate in recent months.
