PALACE DEFENDS PROPOSED PAX SILICA PROJECT AMID ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS

Malacañang defended the proposed United States-led Pax Silica project, saying it is intended to benefit Filipinos despite concerns raised over its potential environmental, social, and geopolitical impacts.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the administration supports the project, emphasizing that it is designed to contribute to the country’s development and national interest.

The proposed project has drawn criticism from various groups, who expressed concerns over possible environmental degradation, the displacement of affected communities, and its broader geopolitical implications.

Despite these concerns, Castro maintained that the government remains committed to ensuring that projects undertaken in the country serve the welfare of the Filipino people.

The Palace has yet to announce whether additional consultations or environmental safeguards will be implemented as discussions on the proposed project continue.
