The Department of Transportation (DOTr) approved on Friday, September 25, the fare increase for public utility vehicles (PUVs), following the earlier suspension of the adjustment in March.

The new fares will take effect on Monday, September 28, covering traditional and modern jeepneys, city and provincial buses, point-to-point (P2P) buses, transport network vehicle services (TNVS), and airport taxis.

For traditional jeepneys, the minimum fare will increase from ₱13 to ₱14 for the first four kilometers, with an additional ₱2 for every succeeding kilometer. Modern jeepneys, meanwhile, will have a minimum fare of ₱17, up from ₱15, with an additional ₱2.40 per succeeding kilometer.

City bus fares will also increase, with ordinary buses charging ₱15, while air-conditioned buses will charge ₱18. P2P bus fares will likewise increase by 15 percent.

For provincial buses, additional charges will vary depending on the type of service, while TNVS units will also implement new base fares and a ₱15-per-kilometer pick-up fare.

The flag-down rate for airport taxis will increase to ₱115 for the first 500 meters, with no increase in the succeeding per-300-meter and per-two-minute rates.

The fare adjustments are expected to affect millions of commuters beginning Monday as transportation operators implement the new rates.
