The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has called for the abolition of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), citing recent misconduct cases as justification for its inclusion in proposed constitutional reforms.

During a press briefing, Remulla stated that the SK became an instrument for early political malpractice after two chairpersons were charged with the misuse of funds in Makati City.

The investigation uncovered irregularities in the handling of the council's budget after the SK chairperson of Barangay Dasmariñas reportedly solicited a 20% commission amounting to ₱70,000 from a hired catering service for their Halloween Party in October 2025.

After a hearing by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Makati City, the SK chairperson was found liable for two counts of misconduct, resulting in a formalized six-month suspension, as per a resolution approved on March 23, 2026.

In a separate case, the SK chairperson of Barangay Magallanes was issued a three-month suspension after allegedly forging the signature of an SK kagawad on a Halloween-related project resolution.

"Matuto naman kayo. Mahiya naman kayo. Mayaman na nga kayo, magnanakaw pa kayo, di ba? Mahiya naman kayo, " Remulla said.

Both SK chairmen will be held accountable and face legal action for direct bribery and falsification of official records.
