STRUCTURAL FAILURE AT MANHATTAN HIGH-RISE TRIGGERS MASS EVACUATION

A major emergency response unfolded in Midtown Manhattan after structural damage was discovered inside a high-rise building undergoing renovation, prompting authorities to evacuate nearby buildings and close several streets as a precaution.

According to New York City officials, construction workers noticed cracks and buckling structural columns on the building's 21st floor. The damage caused several floors above to sag, raising concerns about the stability of the structure. The building, a former Pfizer headquarters, is being converted into a residential complex.

Emergency crews from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), the New York City Department of Buildings, and the NYPD responded immediately. Authorities evacuated the high-rise along with neighboring buildings, including a school with around 400 children, while engineers assessed the structural integrity of the building. Nearby roads were also shut down to protect the public.

Officials said there were no reported injuries, and all construction workers were safely accounted for. Engineers continue to stabilize the affected sections of the building while investigators determine what caused the structural failure. City officials emphasized that public safety remains their top priority as the assessment continues.
