TUGUEGARAO COUNCILOR RESIGNS, CITES PERSONAL REASONS

Tuguegarao City Councilor Mariel Ayna Ting-Calimag has resigned from her post after serving for a year, saying her decision was based on personal reasons rather than pressure from public office.

In a social media statement released on July 14, Calimag said she carefully considered her decision through prayer, reflection, and conversations with those closest to her before stepping down.
She clarified that while public service comes with pressure, her resignation was driven by personal circumstances that now require her full attention and commitment.
Calimag did not disclose specific details but said she chose to prioritize her personal well-being and family, adding that not all personal matters need to be explained publicly.
The councilor also expressed gratitude to the people of Tuguegarao for the trust they placed in her, saying she did not want to remain in office if she could no longer serve with the level of dedication the position deserves.
Tuguegarao City Mayor Maila Ting-Que expressed support for Calimag’s decision, saying the councilor demonstrated integrity by choosing to step down rather than continue serving while struggling to fulfill her responsibilities.
According to the mayor, Calimag had been conflicted for some time and showed delicadeza by relinquishing the position instead of holding on to it despite her personal circumstances.
Calimag, a member of the National Unity Party, was elected as the city’s 10th-ranking councilor during the 2025 local elections.
