ABS-CBN has announced a retrenchment program that will affect around 200 employees, or approximately 7 percent of its workforce, as the company moves to maintain its financial stability amid continuing economic challenges.

In a statement released Tuesday, the media company said it made the decision after a careful review of its operations and financial position.

“After careful review, we have made the difficult decision to implement a retrenchment program to keep ABS-CBN on strong financial footing,” the company said.

ABS-CBN said the program will cover around 200 employees, representing about 7% of its workforce.

The company attributed the decision to several factors affecting the broader economic environment, including the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, high inflation, and low economic growth.

The retrenchment comes as media organizations continue to navigate changes in the industry, rising operating costs, and economic pressures that can affect advertising and other revenue streams.

While the company described the move as difficult, it said the program is intended to help keep ABS-CBN on stronger financial footing moving forward.

The affected employees and the implementation of the retrenchment program are expected to be handled under the company's existing processes.

ABS-CBN's announcement highlights the continuing financial pressures facing businesses as global conflicts, inflation, and slower economic growth weigh on operations.
