CATANDUANES — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) conducted response operations after a dead sperm whale was discovered washed ashore in Barangay Batohonan, Sitio Ilo, Catanduanes.

Authorities immediately responded to assess the situation and examine the remains of the marine animal to help determine the possible cause. Safety measures were also put in place to protect nearby residents and prevent potential health risks.
BFAR is now closely coordinating with the local government to ensure proper and safe clearing operations in the area, including the careful handling and disposal of the whale’s remains. Residents have been advised to avoid the site while operations are ongoing.
An investigation is underway to determine whether environmental factors, pollution, or other marine threats may have contributed to the incident.
The sperm whale, one of the largest marine mammals in the world, plays an important role in maintaining ocean ecosystems, making incidents like this a concern for both authorities and environmental groups.
