MANILA, Philippines — A decision on the proposed ₱1,200 daily minimum wage for workers in Metro Manila may be released by July, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

DOLE Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Lennard Serrano said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in the National Capital Region has received 16 petitions seeking a wage increase. The most recent filing came from the Business Process Outsourcing Industry Employees Network (BIEN) Philippines.
The petitions cite rising costs of goods, higher fuel prices, and the declining purchasing power of the peso as key reasons for the proposed increase. Some groups are also requesting an exemption from the usual 12-month wage adjustment cycle, citing urgent economic conditions.
Serrano explained that wage boards are currently reviewing the petitions and may include them in discussions for the next wage order expected in July. Public consultations and hearings are also set to take place ahead of any final decision.
The proposed increase comes as workers continue to face financial pressure due to ongoing global and local economic challenges.
