ROBIN PADILLA SAYS HE WON’T RUN IN 2028

Sen. Robin Padilla said he no longer plans to seek another elective post after his Senate term ends in 2028, saying he wants to devote more time to his young children and pursue a quieter life.

Padilla made the statement as he thanked supporters and others who have encouraged him to remain in politics. He said he believes he is not suited for the political world and would rather focus on his family after completing his current term.

The senator’s latest announcement marks a change from his earlier statements about a possible 2028 candidacy.

In February 2026, Padilla said he would consider running for vice president alongside Vice President Sara Duterte if former President Rodrigo Duterte asked him to do so. At the time, he said he would follow Duterte’s direction regarding the 2028 elections.

Days later, however, Padilla also publicly said he had no plans to run for vice president, while reiterating that he would follow Duterte if instructed to do so.

Padilla was elected senator in 2022 and is serving a six-year term that runs until 2028. His latest statement indicates that he intends to finish his Senate term but does not currently plan to pursue another public office afterward.

For now, Padilla said his priority is spending more time with his young children and stepping away from the demands of political life.

His announcement comes as political discussions surrounding the 2028 elections continue, with potential candidates and alliances being closely watched. Padilla’s latest position, however, is that he does not intend to seek another elective post after his current Senate term.
