The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has formally served a subpoena to Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in connection with the ongoing investigation into the government’s controversial anti-drug campaign during the Duterte administration.

Dela Rosa, who served as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from 2016 to 2018, was one of the key officials who led the implementation of the administration’s intensified war on drugs. The campaign drew both local and international attention due to thousands of reported deaths linked to anti-drug operations.

According to authorities, the subpoena is part of efforts to gather statements and clarify matters related to the investigation. CIDG officials have yet to disclose full details regarding the specific allegations or scope of the probe.

The senator has repeatedly defended the anti-drug campaign, maintaining that police operations during his tenure were conducted in line with the law and aimed at protecting communities from illegal narcotics.

Human rights organizations, however, have continued to call for accountability over alleged abuses and extrajudicial killings tied to the campaign. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek further evidence and testimonies from individuals connected to the operations.
