The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) prohibiting flights near Mayon Volcano as volcanic activity continues to pose risks to aviation safety.

Under the advisory, aircraft are barred from flying within the vicinity of the volcano, with restrictions typically covering airspace from the surface up to around 11,000 feet to avoid hazards from ash emissions and possible eruptions.

CAAP said the measure is a precaution to protect aircraft from volcanic ash, which can severely damage engines, reduce visibility, and disrupt flight instruments.

The restriction comes as Mayon Volcano remains under heightened monitoring due to ongoing unrest. Authorities have warned that sudden ash plumes and eruptions may occur, posing danger not only to nearby communities but also to aircraft operating in the area.

Aviation authorities advised pilots and airline operators to avoid the affected airspace and closely monitor updates, while passengers are urged to coordinate with airlines for possible schedule changes.

CAAP said it will continue to issue updates as the situation develops, emphasizing that passenger safety remains the top priority.
