BAGUIO CITY — As the nation commemorated the 128th Philippine Independence Day on Thursday, the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) reminded Filipinos that freedom is not only a historic achievement to celebrate but a responsibility that must be actively protected by every generation.
During the observance at Fort General Gregorio H. Del Pilar, PMA Superintendent Vice Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia read the message of Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., emphasizing that the defense of the country’s sovereignty and democratic freedoms remains a continuing mission for soldiers and future military leaders.
The message highlighted the responsibility of every member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to preserve the liberties secured through the sacrifices of past generations.
“As soldiers, airmen, sailors, marines, and civilian human resources of the AFP, we carry the responsibility to ensure that the freedom won by previous generations is preserved for those yet to come,” the message stated.
Military officials underscored that patriotism is demonstrated not only through remembrance of history but through discipline, integrity, and public service that contribute to nation-building and national security.
The ceremony formed part of the nationwide observance of the 128th Philippine Independence Day with the theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.” It also served as a reaffirmation of PMA’s mission to develop future officers who will uphold the values of honor, leadership, and service in safeguarding the country’s freedom.
As the country reflects on the declaration of independence in 1898, PMA stressed that the protection of liberty remains an enduring duty shared by those entrusted with defending the nation and securing its future.
