​ALAS PILIPINAS OPENS AVC CAMPAIGN WITH SWEEP OF UZBEKISTAN

Alas Pilipinas made a commanding start to its 2026 AVC Women’s Nations Cup campaign, dismantling Uzbekistan in straight sets, 25-16, 25-12, 25-14, before a jubilant home crowd at the Candon City Arena on Saturday.

Alyssa Valdez led the Philippines with 14 points in her return to national team duty after three years, Jovelyn Gonzaga and Ces Molina added 12 and 11 points respectively, while Niña Ytang contributed 12 points in her debut.

The Aces controlled the match from the opening set, using a balanced attack and steady net defense to keep Uzbekistan on the back foot throughout the contest.

Setter Kyle Negrito ran the offense efficiently, while Kyla Atienza and Alyssa Eroa anchored the backcourt with consistent floor defense.

Valdez said the team’s focus was on execution and discipline in their opening assignment.

“We just stuck to our system and stayed composed from start to finish," Valdez added after the match.

The win gives the Philippines an early lead in Pool A of the tournament hosted in Candon City.

Alas Pilipinas will come face to face with Australia in its next assignment on Sunday, June 7, at the Candon City Arena.
