CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur — Alas Pilipinas slipped from the top of the Pool A standings after absorbing a straight-set defeat at the hands of South Korea, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22, in the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup on Tuesday at the Candon City Arena.

The Filipinas entered the match looking to solidify their hold of the group lead but were outplayed by the unbeaten Koreans, who showcased their offensive firepower and defensive discipline throughout the contest.
Despite dropping the first two sets, Alas Pilipinas mounted a spirited fight in the third frame and appeared poised to extend the match after building a 20-18 advantage. However, South Korea responded with a blistering 6-0 run, capitalizing on key errors and reception struggles by the home side to seize control and close out the match in straight sets.
The setback dropped the Philippines to a 2-2 record with eight points, forcing the national squad to settle for second place in Pool A. South Korea, meanwhile, remained undefeated at 3-0 and secured sole possession of the group's top spot with nine points.
South Korea's consistency in attack and efficiency in crucial moments proved to be the difference, particularly late in the third set when Alas Pilipinas struggled to sustain its momentum.
While the defeat halted the Filipinas' climb in the standings, the team showed flashes of resilience against one of the tournament's strongest contenders. The national squad now turns its focus to its remaining matches as it seeks to regain momentum and strengthen its bid in the AVC Women's Volleyball Cup.
With the home crowd behind them, Alas Pilipinas aims to bounce back and keep its campaign on track despite the setback against the tournament leaders.
