Senator Leila de Lima is pushing for expanded cash benefits for senior citizens through a proposed measure seeking to amend Republic Act No. 11982, also known as the amended “Centenarians Act of 2016.”
De Lima said the proposal aims to provide financial assistance to Filipino senior citizens at earlier ages “kung kailan mas mararamdaman at mapapakinabangan nila ang benepisyo mula sa gobyerno."
Under the proposed bill, Filipinos residing both in the Philippines and abroad would receive cash gifts upon reaching milestone ages.
The proposed benefits include:
• ₱25,000 upon reaching 70 years old
• ₱10,000 at ages 75, 85, and 95
• ₱50,000 at 80 years old
• ₱75,000 at 90 years old
• ₱100,000 at 100 years old
De Lima emphasized the need to honor and support elderly Filipinos by providing them with services, protection, and financial assistance they deserve.
The senator also recalled being the principal author and sponsor of the National Commission of Senior Citizens Act during her time in the Senate, while calling for the immediate passage of the proposed measure expanding senior citizen benefits.
